“We finished
the regular season with a 6-3 victory over Chesapeake
placing us in first place in the division. Our record to
date is 9-1-1 in our league and 10-2-1 overall,” says
Coach K.G., soccer. Their tenacity and disciplined play
has gotten the team to the level that they’ve been
striving for all season and during the off-season.
Coach K.G.’s creative blend of
talent, knowledge, disciple and ability has made the
team stronger, and the fact that the team has gelled and
established a strong chemistry early on is a good thing.
The team looks good going into the playoffs. Coach
K.G.’s team is diverse, to say the least. K.G.’s team
consists of students who come from around the world.
“We represent Randallstown
High School. We also have a very diverse team that
reflects the diversity of Randallstown. Even though many
of our students may look the same, they come from
diverse religions, economic, ethnic and cultural
backgrounds. This makes a stronger team off the field,
since we all learn from each other. On the field, all of
those differences disappear and we play as one unit,” he
says. Team members are from Africa, South America, and
North America.
Coach K.G. likes what he sees,
but there are some things that he would like to tweak
and revamp. “Our players need to learn some of the
basics of the game. They also need to play the formation
that the coaches teach them. If one player is out of
position or lost, the whole team suffers,” says Coach
K.G.
The team
is also big on teamwork. “No one player is more
important than the other. The bottom line is that if
every player doesn’t play well on the team, [we] will
not be successful. Everybody is an important piece to
the puzzle,” he says. “The only thing that can slow us
down is our attitudes and egos. If those things are in
check, nothing will stop us.”
