Tattoos
are really trendy right now; everywhere you look someone
has one. ‘Tatted Up,’ the song that came out last
year, may have inspired the trend. The song is about boys
liking girls who have tattoos.
Brandon
Holloman, senior, said he got a tattoo because he
thought that it looked nice, and once he started getting
tattoos he couldn’t stop. “They are so addictive,”
he says.
Dominique
Ervin, senior, said, “Tattoos attract a lot of
attention, and I like a lot of attention. That’s why I
got one.”
Brenita
Stepter, senior, said lthat she just got one
because she knew it would make her mother mad.
Most
students that I spoke with had gotten tattoos of their
names. The
most common place for girls to get tattoos is on their
lower backs and most of the time girls get stars, their
names, or butterflies. The most common places for guys
to get tattoos is on their arms and most of the time
they get praying hands or a name of a loved one.
When
I asked students without tattoos what they thought of
people who had tattoos, they all had the same answer.
Most students said they didn’t think any differently
about people with tattoos.
Cristina
Jackson said, “I haven’t gotten one yet because my
parents would have a fit.”
Breanna
Benbow, senior, said, “I don’t want one because
everyone has one right now, and plus it’s probably going
to look nasty when I get older. [It] may even be
inappropriate looking when I go into the work field in
search of a job.”
Whether you decide to get a tattoo or not, you should know
the risks . Before you consider getting a tattoo, first
check with your
parents. Then, do some research.
According to Wikipedia, because tattoos require
breaking the skin barrier, tattooing may carry health
risks, including infection and allergic reactions. Since
tattoo instruments come in contact with blood and bodily
fluids, diseases may be transmitted if the instruments
are used on more than one person without being
sterilized. However, infection from tattooing in clean
and modern tattoo studios employing single-use needles
is rare.
