Dear Parents and Students:

Last year, we began paying attention to changing the environment and climate here at Randallstown High School. For the most part, it appears that we were successful. This is, in part, because most of the students did what they were asked to do, went to their classes, and were well behaved. The staff was exceedingly proud of most of our young ladies and gentleman. We want them to now take these positive attitudes into their classrooms on a consistent basis and meet with excellence.

Be very clear that the school’s rules and guidelines are not to hold you prisoner but to set you free. Each student who comes into this school must find excellence in our delivery of lessons, and each student must leave here with an education second to none. Mediocrity cannot be our standard! A good education is the cornerstone for finding real freedom in the choices we are able to make in our lives!

Please read the following information carefully, for it highlights rules that will make you successful here. You will see the rules, which are simple: come to school dressed appropriately, possess a positive attitude, and participate in lessons that are rigorous and engaging.

Let us point out that next year, we will be on a four period day and as such students will have eight classes instead of seven, four on “A” day and four on “B” day. You will find that this is a much better means of giving students the opportunities they need to compete when trying to get into colleges, the work force, or the military.

Again, carefully read the information below so that this school year will be a successful one for you and your child.

Students, enjoy the rest of your summer, and come back refreshed and ready to do your very best.

Sincerely,

Cheryl Pasteur, Principal

Shelia Reed, Assistant Principal

Antoinette Roberson, Assistant Principal

Tryalah Shipman, Assistant Principal

Lawrence Williams, Assistant Principal

POLICIES AND RULES…   These are the rules, and we will enforce them because we want students in class and there on time because we want successful students.

1. Lateness to class:

                    a. Students MUST be in the room by the time the bell has stopped ringing.

b. Students who are late to class MUST sign the log. Teachers can amend the SWIPE record during      the   planning period. The LOG is to be given to the chair at the end of the week; it will be kept as back up for what is to be placed on SWIPE. FOR STUDENTS LATE NINE MINUTES AND UNDER…THE following happens:

1.) warning the first time and call home

2.) school detention the second time (Failure to attend = suspension)

3.) suspension or RPC the third time

Since attendance is considered a part of a quarter grade, unexcused latenesses WILL be reflected in the participation section of the quarter grade.

c. Students late ten or more minutes are to be given the short referral form and sent to the office immediately. The student will be suspended.

2. Unexcused lateness to school (see the above)

3. absences/grades - an excused absence is based on COMAR; see the codes attached.

4. failure to SWIPE – after school detention the first time (suspension if the detention is

missed); suspension the second and subsequent times

 5. use of ALC – by administrative referral ONLY!

 6. lunch time

                a. AP coverage – Shipman (A); Reed (B); Roberson (C)

                b. AP hall coverage - Lawrence

                c. rules – no electronic devices; no hats

  7. Friday and special closings – All students released through all second floor doors, exterior

                gym doors, EXIT 2 only

   8. Dress for Success:

                YOUNG LADIES:

a.        Dresses, shorts, skirts MUST be BELOW your fingertips when your arms are held straight down by your sides; this includes when you wear LEGGINGS!

b.        Slips, camisoles, and other like clothing MUST be worn under SHEER garments!

c.        No cleavage is to be shown in the front of dresses or blouses.

d.        There are to be no strapless tops unless you are wearing a jacket or sweater over that top.

e.        There is to be no part of the stomach showing at any time.

f.         Please assess the items you wear to make sure that they fit in a flattering way.

g.        Electronic devices are not to be seen. This includes phones, headphones, music devices, and all other electronic devices.

                 YOUNG MEN:

a.        Under pants are NOT to be seen! WE do not care how decorative the pattern; they are still under garments.

b.        Colored neck beads, colored wristbands, and headscarves are not allowed.

c.        Anything we construe as gang clothing or paraphernalia is NOT ALLOWED!

d.        Tee shirts that refer to drugs, violence, or intimate subject matter are NOT ALLOWED! This includes profanity.

e.        Under shirts worn as an outer garment are not allowed in classrooms or the halls.

f.         HATS WORN IN THE BUILDING WILL BE TAKEN!

g.        Electronic devices are not to be seen. This includes phones, headphones, music devices, and all other electronic devices.

Although it is not clothing or an electronic device, please note that PERMANENT MARKERS ARE NOT ALLOWED IN THE BUILDING! Anyone caught writing on school property will be immediately suspended

If you violate these clothing rules, you will remain in the alternative learning center until someone is able to bring you a change of clothes. Violations pertaining to electronic devices will result in the device being confiscated by the dean of students or assistant principals; a referral will be written for the file and for logging in purposes, for it is a clear violation of the State’s telecommunications regulations. PARENTS/GUARDIANS must retrieve these items from the office.
